From March 2026, Your Current Helmet May Not Be Eligible for Play
The Australian Polo Federation (APF) is introducing new helmet safety regulations effective 1 March 2026. Riders are responsible for ensuring their helmet meets one of the approved international safety standards to remain eligible for play.
If your current helmet lacks a visible safety label, or does not meet an approved standard, it may no longer be accepted in matches or training from 2026.
Why This Matters for Polo Players
- New rules apply to all players
- Only helmets meeting approved standards will be accepted
- Non-compliant helmets may be disallowed for match or training use
- Reviewing your helmet early ensures time to replace or upgrade
APF-Approved Safety Standards (Effective 1 March 2026)
Approved helmets must display a visible certification or QC mark for one of the following standards:
- NOCSAE (with SEI mark)
- PAS015:2011 with CE Mark
- VG1 01.040 2014-12
- UTAC/CRITT 04/2015
- EN1384:2017 or EN1384:2023 (subject to APF acceptance)
If your helmet does not clearly reference one of these standards, further review may be required to determine eligibility. Please refer to official APF documentation or your club for confirmation.
How to Review Your Current Helmet
- Locate the certification label inside the helmet.
- Check for one of the approved standards listed above.
- Ensure the label is intact and legible.
- Consider age and condition — heavy wear or past impacts may affect suitability.
For confirmation, always refer to the APF rulebook or seek guidance from your club or governing body.
